The apricot resembles a small peach
or a fuzzy yellow plum, but this Asian native is actually more closely related
to the almond which shares its love of warm summers and a tendency to bloom early.
Grown mostly in the Okanagan valley of British Columbia, the Westcot Apricot's
soft orangy-yellow fruit can be eaten fresh or cured. Although it blooms earlier
than most other fruit trees, it offers a better bud hardness than the others. Its
large white flowers can be seen in very early spring and the Westcot is highly
recommended by experts over other Canadian varieties.
