Ozias Leduc, the
«Sage of St. Hilaire», produced The Young Reader
in 1894. The work shows the artist's younger brother, pencil in
hand, concentrating on a picture book. The dignity, humility and
simple humanity of the scene give the painting that spiritual
quality so often found in great art. The «Young Reader»
is part of the National Gallery of Canada Collection.
