> Canada stamps / Canada's river heritage
When Europeans first set foot in Canada, they were faced with a wilderness barrier of trackless forests. Fortunately, this new land was also criss-crossed by many grand rivers, and these became the early routes of discovery, settlement and growth.

The Canadian Heritage Rivers System (CHRS) was established on January 18, 1984, by the parks agencies of federal, provincial and territorial governments to give national recognition to the important rivers of Canada and to conserve and interpret the best examples of this heritage.
