Located in central
Quebec, the 177 kilometers Jacques-Cartier River flows through
two distinct natural areas: an upper section in Jacques-Cartier
Provincial Park and a lower one compromising the southern edge
of the Laurentian Shield and the St. Lawrence Lowlands. Besides
its natural beauty, historically it served as a travel and trade
route for the Montagnais Indians, for early Jesuit missionaries
and fur traders and as an important settlement area in early Quebec.
