With a name meaning "land's end"
in Mikmaq, Quebec's Gaspé region is home to North America's largest
gannet colony and many other bird species. While John Cabot's landing is
associated with the Discovery Trail, Jacques Cartier's arrival in 1534 was
on the Gaspé. Cartier erected a 30-foot wooden cross on the shore
of Gaspé Bay: a commemorative granite cross stands there today. The
Gaspé stamp shows Route 132 overlooking Percé Rock.
