The 250 kilometers Canadian portion of the Boundary Waters-Voyageur Waterway formed a large part of the fur trading route between Montreal and Lake Winnipeg during the 18th and 19th centuries. Both Hudson's Bay Compagny Voyageurs and North Men of the North West Compagny plied these waters in furladen canoes for more than 200 years.
