Frank H. Johnston tried to
capture the atmospheric qualities of thelandscape. Here, in Serenity,
Lake of the Woods, he handles the clouds, reflected in the water,
with care and subtlety. The late afternoon light illuminates the trees.
The gentle touch shows more of a European influence than is found in
the other members of the Group. Johnston painted this canvas after
he moved west to Winnipeg.
